intel server board s1400fp2 - raid

Hi guys,

That might be a really simple question for some of you guys but does that board support fake raid only ?  In other words, does the O.s need to support the raid entirely ?  I do select raid mode in bios but i don't see how i can configure it in the bios...  I tried control -I , control -E   when the server boot up but nothing show up...

Does that board need a add-in card installed ?

I did read that board support software raid...does that mean O.S dependable ?

Thanks guys for your help.

I'm trying to setup raid10 with 4 hd's...

Fan tachometer reading of 0 RPM although fans are spinning, results in critical alert

Hello,

I have a problem with the server mainboard S1200SPL.

Quick information about the setup:

  • board resides in a non Intel chassis
  • 2 chassis fans (PWM)
  • 1 cpu fan (PWM)
  • BIOS, FRU and SDR are up-to-date
  • SDR was configured with other chassis option, fan 3 and 4 installed, also CPU fan installed option
  • Fans are set to acoustic mode in BIOS

Problem description:

  • all fans are marked as critical in the web frontend (red)
  • diagnostic lights blinking amber
  • fan speed reading of all three fans is 0 RPM
  • but all three fans are actually spinning at a low level

What I did so far:

  • changed values in SDR file and uploaded them to mainboard
  • "SDR Type C0/0A Records For Fan Sensor Scaling", section "OTHER"
    • values for fan 3 and 4 changed from 25000 RPM (hex: A861) to 1000 RPM (hex: E803) and 1500 RPM (hex: DC05), that are the new max values
    • value for processor fan changed from 25000 RPM (hex: A861) to 1900 RPM (hex: 6C07), that is the new max value
  • "Fan tachometer sensors", "OTHER" sections
    • "OTHER_FAN_3"
      • M=04h
      • Nominal Reading=80h (500 RPM)
      • Normal Minimum=7Ch (490 RPM)
      • Lower critical = 00h
      • Lower non-critical = 02h
    • "OTHER_FAN_4"
      • M=06h
      • Nominal Reading=7Fh (750 RPM)
      • Normal Minimum=66h (600 RPM)
      • Lower critical = 00h (0 RPM)
      • Lower non-critical = 11h (12 RPM)
    • "OTHER_PROC_FAN"
      • M=07h
      • Nominal Reading=49h (550 RPM)
      • Normal Minimum=43h (500 RPM)
      • Lower critical = 2Fh (350 RPM)
      • Lower non-critical = 35h (400 RPM)

The values of fan 4 were set to nearly 0 to test if the critical alert will go away, but it didn't. Sometimes fan 4 reports a valid RPM value of 400 RPM and status gets to normal. The fans are spinning in a slow mode so that the whole system is very quiet :-).

Questions:

  • are the fan readings influenced by some other values directly or indirectly in the SDR file, for example "Domain/Profile Dependent RECORDS" or the curves?
  • can the fan readings be fixed somehow?

A bit history: the chassis that I bought came with 3 3-pin-only-fans, that spinned up to 100%. The cpu fan was always a 4-pin fan. Before I changed the numbers in the SDR file the 3 chassis fans got a valid rpm read, but the cpu fan did not. After setting the values in the SDR file, the cpu got also a valid RPM value, but the chassis fans were spinning at 100%. I decided to exchange two of the chassis fan through 4-pin fans. The third chassis fan is disabled now. After placing the new fans in, all rpm values were set to 0 RPM and the status became critical although all fans are actually spinning. and the max rpm values are the same as before After that I lowered the critical values for the chassis fans but without any success.

Ubuntu server drivers for 2600WT PWM controller?

What Linux drivers are available for the PWM fan controller on 2600WT boards?  I ran sensors-detect followed by pwmconfig, but pwmconfig reports that "There are no pwm-capable sensor modules installed".  I'm running Ubuntu 16.04.1 server.  When I load the server heavily, the CPUs sometimes get throttled due to overheating.  As a workaround, I configured the fans to always run at a high RPM in the BIOS, but that's very noisy.

How to reset the superuser password for RMM2.

"Slight" problem. We lost the superuser password for one of our RMM2. I cannot find any procedure in any of the available documents, on how to reset the admin superuser password for this above module. Unfortunately no other users are defined on the RMM2.

Question: how to reset the superuser password on the RMM2? The server is physically accessible.

No jumpers on the RMM2

S1200V3RPL: BMC turns off

Hello All !

S1200V3RPL (the new board) with the "Remote Management Module AXXRMM4Lite" module installed. BIOS updated to the latest version.

Board has a strange behaviour: when turn it off thought Web Console it turns off completely, with the BMC. There is only one LED on the board, that always lights (green) -- power (near the main power connector). LEDs on both NICs, status and ID (rear) all turned off. It goes without saying, that there is no ping and network connectivity to the Integrated BMC Web Console.

The BMC starts working when press on the Power Button on the front panel. System stays in the off mode, only the BMC turns on, initializes and work in ordinary mode (like when one turns on power source).

I tried:

  • To reflash firmware for the BIOS, BMC and ME using according recovery modes (in sequence, one by one, setting according jumper with full AC power down, like it was mentioned in Recovery notes);
  • to downgrade BIOS to the v03.01.0002;
  • run the board with the other power source.

Hello I have a intel s1400sp that i just installed a RMM4 LITE and Dedicated management nic into. I then followed the user guide and setup the server management tab under BMC LAN Configuration in the bios accordingly. I then saved pressing F-10 and plugged in the network. Both lights are yellow and blink slowly, yet when i try to connect to the RMM i cannot connect. I have also checked with my router, network mapper and cmd ping test and i cannot see or ping it. I have changed around the ip address, set to static and also dynamic, removed the dedicated management nic and tried using the onboard ethernet as well but the result is still unchanged.

Hello,

In the bios speed stepping was activated, and I do not know what to do, to conserve some energy.

I hope you can help me to either find a setting, so I can put it into a more energy preserving mode when the power is not used.

Or if not have a recommendation on what to switch to, if it is not possible for some reasons.

Thank you very much in advance!

What I did so far:

  • changed values in SDR file and uploaded them to mainboard

    • value for processor fan changed from 25000 RPM (hex: A861) to 1900 RPM (hex: 6C07), that is the new max value
  • "Fan tachometer sensors", "OTHER" sections
    • "OTHER_FAN_3"

    • "OTHER_FAN_4"
      • M=06h
      • Nominal Reading=7Fh (750 RPM)
      • Normal Minimum=66h (600 RPM)
      • Lower critical = 00h (0 RPM)
      • Lower non-critical = 11h (12 RPM)

      • Normal Minimum=43h (500 RPM)
      • Lower critical = 2Fh (350 RPM)
      • Lower non-critical = 35h (400 RPM)

How do I update the BIOS on a very old S2600CP motherboard?

Hi,

I've just been given an ancient, refurbished S2600CP2J motherboard complete with CPUs and RAM and would like to get it fully working again.

The obvious first step is to update the BIOS but the oldest EFI update package available (01.02.003) states that I need to have at least version 01.01.1002 before starting or "the update process may render the system not operatable!"

According to the BIOS screen, my system is currently SE5C600.86B.99.99.x034, build date 08/23/2011.

As I have no wish to kill the system before I get started, is there any way of upgrading it to 01.01.1002 as a minimum?

Thanks.
